Successful long-term weight loss is no easy feat at all. But a Reddit user, who goes by the username “Dotdays”, went from weighing 87kg to 62kg – and lost all her belly fat in the process – in a little over year, simply by cutting out fizzy drinks.
“It took me just over a year, through first cutting out all fizzy drinks,” Dotdays told fellow Reddit users.
When she started to see the weight fall off, she then continued to cut out snacks, went vegetarian and then took up running.
The 30-year-old admitted that she “put 10kg back on” after her incredible weight loss success – then lost it – but now combines intermittent fasting and the CICO diet (calories in, calories out) to maintain her weight.
“I didn’t follow a diet to lose the weight but I now do intermittent fasting and CICO to TRY to maintain, I fall off the wagon often.”
Dotdays then detailed her day on a plate:
“Breakfast: porridge with soy milk and raw sugar or avocado on wholegrain toast.
Lunch: Soup and one slice of toast or a salad.
Dinner: Anything with loads of veggies or a salad, like vegetarian lasagne or zucchini noodles. I quite often use meat substitutes like vegetarian sausages or patties or even jackfruit. Mushrooms and halloumi are a great meat replacement too.”
The Reddit user explained that even though she’s a lighter, happier and healthier version of herself, every day is still a learning process.
“I think it only worked because I was SO overweight (obese) that just cutting out fizzy drink, going vegetarian and running created enough of a calorie deficit that the weight just fell off and I didn’t have to think too much about it,” Dotdays continued.
“But now, I have to really make a huge effort to maintain. I use the Fast 800 Diet when I’m feeling out of control (I have BED which got me to that point the first place) and I try to run at least 4 times a week.”
